Comins Named ACS Fellow

Dr. Daniel L. Comins, chemistry professor, has been named a fellow of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Comins, one of 192 distinguished scientists to receive the honor this year, will be recognized Aug. 23 during the national meeting in Boston.

Comins’ research focuses on practical syntheses of pharmaceutically important compounds.

Comins earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the State University of New York at Potsdam and a doctorate from the University of New Hampshire. He joined the NC State faculty in 1989. In 1994, he  received the NC State Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award. He was an NC State Inventors Award recipient for 1993-96, 2000 and 2002-10.

Since 1996, Comins has been an associate editor of the Journal of Organic Chemistry. In 1998, he became a Japan Society Promotion of Science  Research Fellow. He won the 2005 North Carolina ACS Distinguished Lecturer Award and the 2006 NC State Distinguished Service Award.
