Plume Wins Arts Council Fellowship

Vita Plume, associate professor of art and design, was one of 18 artists to receive a 2010-11 North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship. Artists receive $10,000 to “deepen their work and explore new ground.”

Plume, a fiber artist, weaves and dyes patterns to merge with portraits on a digital Jacquard loom, creating ghostly distortions of both portrait and patterns. She uses these contortions to explore the instability of visual and cultural identity. Plume received her bachelor’s and master’s from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada.
