Popular Science Highlights Forensic Lab

According to Popular Science, NC State is home to one of the nation’s “30 Most Awesome College Labs.”

The magazine ranked Dr. Ann Ross’ forensic anthropology lab No. 28 on the list, citing students’ involvement in real cases, including the identification of Elizabeth Smallwood, the sixth victim of the Edgecombe serial killer.

The students, even undergrads, help create biological profiles of unidentified human remains. In Smallwood’s case, they used an incisor to identify her.

Last spring, Ross’s Introduction to Forensic Anthropology class made NC State magazine’s list of the 20 most engaging courses on campus and was featured on the university’s homepage.
