National Report: NC State Faculty Friendly

NC State is among 32 colleges and universities with the highest levels of junior faculty job satisfaction in a report issued by the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), a consortium based at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

The report, based on the Tenure-Track Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey, examines these dimensions of satisfaction among early career faculty:

  • tenure practices
  • clarity of institutional expectations for tenure
  • nature of faculty work overall and in research and teaching
  • work and home balance and supports
  • climate, culture and collegiality
  • global satisfaction

NC State was recognized in the “clarity of institutional expectations for tenure” category, where it was named an exemplar school. To qualify as an exemplar, a college or university had to earn benchmark scores that placed it at the top of its peer group, according to COACHE. The list of 32 colleges and universities includes institutions named exemplary in at least one category.
