NC State Holds Forensic Science Symposium for National and State Law Enforcement

North Carolina State University will hold its third annual forensic science symposium –including presentations of cutting-edge crime scene investigation technology and techniques – on Tuesday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the College of Textiles.

The event is open to the media, and will be held in the College of Textiles’ Convocation Room (Room 2309) on NC State’s Centennial Campus. Media parking is available in the visitor’s lot in front of the college on Main Campus Drive or in the large lot at the side of the building on Research Drive. Dr. Debi Radisch, North Carolina’s chief medical examiner, will give the first of three keynote speeches at 9 a.m. on the current and future challenges of the N.C. medical examiner system. Dr. Jeff Wells will discuss key issues in forensic entomology, and Paul Kish, a forensics consultant, will discuss bloodstain pattern analysis. National and state law enforcement, justice-serving companies and forensic science researchers will learn more about state-of-the-art capabilities for crime scene investigation and review recent forensic activities at NC State. NC State forensic experts Dr. Ann  Ross, associate professor of anthropology; Dr. David Hinks, Cone Mills Professor of Textile Chemistry; Dr. Wes Watson, professor of entomology; and Dr. Billy Oliver, director of the NC Office of Archaeological Research Center and adjunct assistant professor of anthropology, will discuss the forensics work being conducted at NC State and forensic needs in North Carolina.
