Sederoff Named Forest Biotechnologist of Year

Dr. Ron Sederoff, Distinguished University Professor of Forestry, has been voted Forest Biotechnologist of the Year by his peers.

Members of the Forest Biotechnology Partnership, part of the Institute of Forest Biotechnology, selected Sederoff for the award.

Sederoff, co-director of NC State’s Forest Biotechnology Group, focuses on reducing deforestation, habitat destruction and climate change through a rapid acceleration of the “domestication” of trees and modifying trees to solve environmental problems. He carries out research on the genomics of forest trees and the molecular basis of wood formation.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in zoology and a doctorate in genetics, all from the University of California, Los Angeles.
