Velev Selected as ACS Fellow
Dr. Orlin D. Velev has been named a fellow of the American Chemical Society.
Velev, the Invista Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering,was selected based on his achievements, professional contributions and ACS service. In August he will be honored at the organization’s national meeting and recognized in Chemical & Engineering News.
Velev, who came to NC State in 2001, has established himself as a research leader in colloid science and engineering, as well as in the assembly of biosensors and nano- and microstructures with photonic, optical and electrical functionality.
He is a past recipient of the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Engineering Research Award, Alumni Association Outstanding Research Award, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, National Science Foundation Career Award and Ralph E. Powe Award.
Velev received his master’s in chemical physics and theoretical chemistry in 1989 and his doctorate in physical chemistry in 1996 from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
