FAQs on Employee Appreciation Tailgate

Getting ready for the Employee Appreciation Tailgate on Saturday, Oct. 8? Here’s some information to help in making your plans.

The tailgate begins at noon, and the game starts at 3:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your university ID. You’ll need to show it so that you and your family can participate in the free food and fun.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes, you can. Good eats and nonalcoholic drinks will be provided free of charge, but you’re welcome to bring your favorite tailgate items.

And yes, beer and “unfortified wine” are permitted for those 21 and older at university tailgates.

If you bring something from home, you’ll have to take it with you or dispose of it at the end of the tailgate. Coolers or other containers are your responsibility. Please refer to stadium rules for what you can bring to the event.

Can I set up my own tailgate at the event?
Not really, if you’re thinking about bringing your own tent, sound system or pig smoker. Tables, chairs and entertainment will be provided. We’re making it easy for you to join the party … all you have to do is show up.

Where can I park?
There are a limited number of parking passes (500) available for the Vet Med parking deck across Blue Ridge.

If you didn’t get a pass, the Dan Allen Parking Deck on main campus can also be used for game parking. Plan to catch the Red Terror bus in front of D.H. Hill Library and allow a few extra minutes. Also, if you have one of those newfangled smart phones, you can check online for up-to-the-minute bus locations at www.transloc.com.

Additional public lots in the stadium area are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I get from the tailgate to the stadium?
After a couple hours of free barbecue and such, a short walk will be just the ticket, right? It’s about three-quarters of a mile walk down Trinity from the tailgate party to the stands. You might want to do some stretches, just in case. We’re working on a way for people with limited mobility to ask for transportation assistance. Stay tuned.

Be sure to stop by the Fan Zone and enjoy the other game day festivities once you get to the stadium.
