Blikslager Honored for Equine Research

Anthony Blikslager, professor of equine surgery in the College of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the Merial Applied Equine Research Award for his work in equine pain management. The international award annually recognizes outstanding research conducted in a specific field of applied equine science in the past five years. The 2011 award specifically honors advances in pain management of horses.

Blikslager, whose research specialty is gastroenterology, is a member of the Equine Health Program in the Department of Clinical Sciences. He will be recognized during opening ceremonies of the World Equine Veterinary Association’s 12th WEVA Congress in India next month. Blikslager will present attending international equine veterinarians with an oral and written summary of his pain management efforts.

The World Equine Veterinary Association was established in 1985 as a division of the World Veterinary Association. The goal of the WEVA is “to advance the health and welfare of horses worldwide by promoting and offering quality continuing education for equine practitioners, specifically in countries with limited access to high quality, broad-based professional education.”
