Attarian Named to Conservation Post
Dr. Aram Attarian has been selected as the American Alpine Club’s conservation ambassador for the Southern Appalachian Section.
Attarian, an associate professor of parks, recreation and tourism management, currently serves as a member of the AAC Safety Advisory Council. He is also director of the State Park Leadership School for the National Association of State Park Directors.
In his new role, Attarian will work with AAC leaders and volunteers in a Conservation Working Group to carry out the section’s conservation strategy, programs and projects. The AAC, an advocacy group for American climbers, provides information, resource conservation and logistical support.
Attarian was involved in the early years of the Carolina Climbers Coalition and has served on the CCC Board of Directors. He played a critical role in the CCC efforts to replace aging bolts at Carolina crags and wrote the Climbing Management Plan for Laurel Knob.
