Equity Awards Presented

Congratulations to the 2012 winners and nominees for the Equity Awards for Women. The Council on the Status of Women recently honored two recipients: Lois Crowe, office manager for the Women’s Center, and Dr. Betsy Brown, vice provost for faculty affairs.

Crowe’s nomination praised her dedication to women’s health issues through her “guidance and love” of the Chocolate Festival, a campus event dedicated to education and fundraising for breast cancer. Thanks to Crowe’s hard work, the festival has grown fourfold since it was started in 2003. The 2011 event raised $10,000.

Brown was recognized as a mentor and supporter of women in departmental leadership positions. About 25 percent of department heads at NC State are women. “With Betsy in the provost’s office, women department heads have what men have for a very long time, a sympathetic ear and wise counsel,” her nominator wrote.

The group also recognized seven nominees for working to improve the lives of women at NC State and serving as positive role models.
