Math Education Awards Add up

Mathematics education faculty are winning recognition for work ranging from research on teachers’ use of technology in solving problems to leadership in educating secondary math teachers.

A team led by Dr. Hollylynne Lee won a National Technology Leadership Initiative fellowship from the Association of Mathematics Teacher Education (AMTE) for a research paper about how teachers use dynamic statistical technology to solve problems. The cross-institutional study followed teachers using materials from the Preparing to Teach Mathematics with Technology project co-directed by Lee and Dr. Karen Hollebrands. Lee’s co-authors are Drs. Gladis Kersaint, Suzanne Harper, Shannon Driskell and Keith Leatham.

The fellowship recognizes the team’s exemplary presentation at the 2012 AMTE conference and at a two-hour symposium for the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education.

Hollebrands and a team that includes Lee, Allison McCulloch, Karen Keene, Karen Norwood and Alina Duca have been selected as a partner in the Mathematics Teacher Education-Partnership. MTE-Partnership includes universities and K-12 schools, districts and other organizations working collaboratively to redesign secondary mathematics teacher preparation programs. The NC State team also includes members from East Carolina University, Wake County Public Schools and N.C. Department of Instruction.
