NC State Hosts Start-Up Event; U.S. Rep. Ellmers to Speak

North Carolina State University will host its Fast 15 Signature Event, an opportunity to learn more about the new technologies and companies created at the university, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, at the Park Alumni Center on Centennial Campus.

U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers, chairwoman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Healthcare and Technology, will give a talk on “Investing in the Future” starting at 3:10 p.m. Ellmers chairs the subcommittee responsible for authorization and oversight of the Small Business Innovative Research program.

Media coverage of the event and Ellmers’ talk is invited. The Park Alumni Center is located off Main Campus Drive; plentiful free parking is available.

The event, hosted by NC State’s Office of Technology Transfer, will include updates on some of NC State’s most promising technologies and start-up companies, the so-called Fast 15. These include ImagineOptix, a company that makes tiny projection systems – think of a projector that can fit on your finger – for phones and other uses. ImagineOptix commercializes technology developed by Dr. Michael Escuti, an NC State electrical and computer engineer who last year received a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

The Fast 15 includes start-up companies focusing on discoveries with great potential for commercialization, as well as young companies needing a boost to reach their full potential.

NC State has produced more than 760 patents, 90 start-up companies and 230 commercialized products.
