Development Directors Hired

NC State has hired advancement directors for two colleges. Reid M. Ricciardi is the new executive director of development for the College of Education. W. Scott Troutman has been named director of development for the Poole College of Management.

Ricciardi most recently was director of campaign strategy and planning for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he also served as a major gift officer and annual fund manager, contributing to record-setting fundraising and participation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Purdue University and is pursuing a master’s degree at Duke.

Ricciardi began his development career 18 years ago at Suffield Academy in Connecticut. In 1996, he joined the advancement team for Culver Academies in Indiana. He returned to his alma mater, Purdue, in 1999, working for nine years in fundraising for the President’s Council and the annual fund before being named director of development for student services. His move to NC State reflects a desire to return to a land-grant institution and work with both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Troutman brings more than 18 years of experience in higher education advancement, sales and marketing, and management consulting to his new role. He most recently was director of development for academic programs and executive director of the Alumni and Friends Society for NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, positions he has held since June 2004.

Before joining NC State’s development team, Troutman held consulting, business development and project management roles with Arthur Andersen Business Consulting and several chemical and pharmaceutical industry firms. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from NC State in 1989 and an M.B.A. from the University of Georgia.

“I am very pleased to be adding such talented advancement professionals to complement our NC State team,” said Nevin Kessler, vice chancellor for university advancement.
