Communicating in Digital Environments

How do players of online games communicate in digital environments? That’s the topic of “When DoomJezter Met AngelBlossom: Virtual World Language Use and Real World Identity,” a forum on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Hall Lounge. The forum is open to the public and teaches what we can learn from the avatar names people choose and from text-based communication. Dr. Aaron Lawson, a research linguist at SRI International, will share insights of a three-year study looking at how the real-life attributes of players disconnect from their online behaviors and interactions. Contact Nick Taylor at nttaylor@ncsu.edu for more details.
