Emergency Exercise Planned for January

NC State will hold a full-scale emergency exercise from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, while students are away on winter break. The drill will be a simulation of a potential shooter on campus. Much of the exercise will take place in two Central Campus residence halls. Students are reminded that residence halls do not reopen for occupancy from winter break until Jan. 4 at 5 p.m.

Delays and disruption to normal operations can be expected for the duration of the exercise in limited locations:

  • There will be no vehicle access to Harris lot. Alternate parking will be available in Dan Allen Deck.
  • Vehicles will not be able to access Cates Ave. between Dan Allen Dr. and Morrill Dr. Outbound traffic will, however, be allowed.
  • Pedestrians will be able to access all buildings along Cates Ave.

Safety officers will be present to observe the exercise for its duration; please follow their directions if you are in the area during the exercise. Participants in the exercise include University Housing resident advisors and resident directors, NC State and local first responders, University Emergency Operations officials, and role-playing staff actors.

NC State frequently hosts emergency exercises to test university and outside agency response and operational capabilities.
