Chemistry Lab Safety Best in Nation

Laboratory safety in the chemistry department has been recognized as the most comprehensive in the nation among undergraduate programs by the American Chemical Society. The group’s annual NIOSH College and University Health and Safety Award measures 10 criteria, including chemical hygiene plans, waste minimization and laboratory conditions.

The award award includes a commemorative plaque and a $1,000 prize.

Past winners include Princeton University, Wellesley College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
