New Student Villages to Open

Incoming freshmen with a passion for engineering or sustainability will have the opportunity to live on campus in one of two new “learning and living villages” set to open in the fall. EcoVillage will house 115 students on the first and second floors of Bragaw Residence Hall and Engineering Village will house 117 students on the top three floors of Metcalf Residence Hall.

Villages are small, interest-based communities where students live and engage around a common theme. They also help new students find their place, make connections, build community and feel like more than a number on a campus with nearly 35,000 students.

University Housing currently operates 11 villages in residence halls across campus, including Arts Village, Global Village and Women in Science and Engineering Village.

EcoVillage residents will engage with faculty members to explore local, regional and global approaches for advancing sustainability. They will also receive support from upper-class mentors to ensure their academic success as well as personal and career development. The village is open to all students and majors.

Engineering Village will serve students entering the First Year Engineering Program in the College of Engineering, providing academic support and career exploration opportunities. The village will also employ upper-class engineering students to serve as mentors to help students as they transition into their engineering major.
