New AVC for SPARCS

Jeffrey M. Cheek will join NC State by mid-November as associate vice chancellor for research administration, with responsibility for Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance Services, which facilitates the submission of proposals, negotiation of agreements, non-financial project management and administration of sub-agreements.

SPARCS is also responsible for institutional regulatory compliance, conflicts of interest, export controls, facility security matters and research integrity.

Cheek is currently the associate vice provost for research administration at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he provides executive leadership for the development and implementation of research operations, ensuring that pre-award research operations and oversight of human subjects research provide high levels of service to investigators, and that research administrative programs conform to state and federal regulations, guidance and accreditation standards.

Previously, he served as assistant vice president for research and learning innovations for the University of Colorado system, director of the Colorado Tobacco Research Program for the University of Colorado system, research administrator for biomedical sciences at the University of California Tobacco-Related Diseases Research Program, and assistant research professor in veterinary anatomy, physiology and cell biology at the University of California, Davis.

Cheek has a Ph.D. and M.S. in public health from UCLA and a B.S. in chemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill.
