Tips to Navigate Campus During Move-In

Students moving in at NC State.

Well, the summer of 2014 went by fast. How do you know it’s over? Move-in for most students who will live on campus begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, and lasts through Tuesday of the following week.

So be aware that no vehicles can be parked in designated unloading areas Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All vehicles on campus those days need either a valid permanent parking permit or a temporary parking permit for students checking in to their new homes.

Vehicles parked in designated unloading areas are allowed a maximum of 45 minutes to unload before they need to be moved to a long-term lot.

Staff and faculty can avoid the crush of students making their migratory return to the heart of campus by staying away from certain areas during check-in hours and by heeding the changes in traffic patterns on Cates Avenue during move-in days. Cates, the main throughway for the Central Campus residence halls, will be one-way westbound Friday and Saturday.

Traffic control officers and parking attendants will be stationed across campus to assist with parking and to give directions to students and their families as they arrive and unload.

Thurman Drive between Bragaw and Sullivan residence halls will be closed to all traffic Friday and Saturday.

Check-in at Wolf Village Apartments will begin Aug. 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the resident’s assigned hall. After hours and during Aug. 11-20, check-in will be at the Gray Hall 24-hour service desk. Check-in at Wolf Ridge at Centennial Apartments began on Aug. 1 and will continue through Aug. 20 at the Tower Hall service desk.

NCSU Transportation will be open throughout the weekend to assist anyone with parking or transportation issues. The office will keep regular 7 a.m.–5 p.m. hours on Friday and special hours on Saturday (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) and Sunday (1–4 p.m.).

Students moving into residence halls have been given specific instructions to keep the weekend stress-free as they check into their new homes, which include:

  • Follow specific directions for your residence hall.
  • Bring a handcart to move your belongings.
  • Wrap electronic and glass items to protect them from damage.
  • Stay well hydrated, and wear comfortable clothing and footwear.
  • Be prepared for inclement weather.
  • Printing a color copy of the Move-In Parking Map for your specific location will be helpful.
