Build-A-Block Info Meetings Set

The annual Shackathon allows students to build temporary shelters on the Brickyard to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

Next week, the NC State Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter will host four informational meetings about its upcoming Build-A-Block program, the largest partnership between a university and a Habitat affiliate. The program was announced in August at Packapalooza.

Fundraising has begun to build 11 townhomes located off Lake Wheeler Road, with a goal of raising $715,000 over the next two years. Shackathon, the annual NC State student-led fundraiser for the campus chapter, ends on Saturday.

Build-A-Block expands upon Habitat Wake’s longstanding relationship with the student chapter and will provide unprecedented opportunities for volunteerism, financial support and fundraising. Through Build-A-Block, Wolfpack students, faculty, staff and members of the Triangle community will work alongside Wake County families to build the new homes.

Next week’s meetings are open to all campus organizations, faculty, staff and alumni groups who would like to participate in the all-volunteer program.
