NC State to Join American Academy
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has invited NC State to support its efforts to advance higher education by serving as an affiliate institution.
As an affiliate, NC State joins 66 other top universities, including Duke and UNC Chapel Hill, that partner with the academy by participating in its studies on higher education and by helping to support its fellowships and outreach programs.
Since its founding in 1780, the American Academy has served the nation as a champion of scholarship, civil dialogue and applied knowledge. As one of the oldest learned societies and independent policy research centers in the United States, the academy convenes leaders from the academic, business and public sectors to address critical challenges facing society.
The organization conducts studies and creates publications that focus on the humanities, arts and education; science, engineering and technology; global security and international affairs; and America institutions and the public good. It also provides nonpartisan policy advice to decision-makers.
The academy’s 4,600 fellows and 600 foreign honorary members include many of the most accomplished scholars and practitioners worldwide, including more than 250 Nobel laureates.
The academy frequently sponsors meetings, lectures, panel discussions and informal gatherings around the country. Its publications include the journal Dædalus.
