Transportation Adds New Spaces, Initiatives

By now, you should either have your new campus parking permit or are waiting to it arrive in the mail.

NC State Transportation’s new renewal system opened on June 20 for customers who pay for a two-year permit by payroll deduction and on July 1 for customers who pay in full for a one-year permit with a credit card.

Transportation will also phase these other initiatives between now and the beginning of the fall semester.

  • A new printable temporary parking pass for employees who may have left their parking permit at home or in another vehicle for a maximum of five times a year.
  • A new electric vehicle parking permit, in addition to a campus parking permit, for those who use charging stations on campus. The $120 cost of the permit, which can be payroll deducted, will help maintain current stations and replace aging stations. EV users will also be limited to four hours at the charging stations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., in order to have access for more users. The EV permit is not required for charging after 5 p.m.
  • The visitors booth at the entrance of Centennial Campus on Main Campus Drive was closed as of June 30. All visitors needing visitor permits should utilize pay-by-space options. They can also arrange for a Guest OnLine pass that can be issued by the visitor’s host department.
  • A total of 10 pay spaces have been added on the Centennial Biomedical Campus. They are located in the parking lot off William Moore Drive, across the street from the main College of Veterinary Medicine building entrance. The six visitor parking spaces formerly located in that lot have been converted to C spaces.
  • More pay spaces will also be added to the Dan Allen Carriageway adjacent to Harris Hall for visitors to student services. Some RE spaces on Cates Avenue will be reconfigured to C spaces to mitigate the loss of C parking in the Dan Allen Carriageway.
  • Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Transportation will reconfigure the signals at the intersection of Avent Ferry and Varsity Drive, with ground construction beginning in August. The city will follow in September with signal improvements.
