Hillsborough Work to Reroute Traffic

Here’s another event to add to Red and White Week: nightly closings of Hillsborough Street, right through Friday’s Homecoming Parade.

Duke Energy is closing the street from Brooks Avenue west to Faircloth/Gorman Street beginning at 7 p.m. each night until 6 a.m. the next day to complete the installation of new transmission poles. Traffic will be rerouted with detour signs to guide drivers.

More about the entire Hillsborough Street project is available online.

Merchants along the street remain open.

NCSU Transportation advises those who are attending Friday afternoon’s events — which include the Chancellor’s Fall Address at 2:30, the campus Red and White Week Celebration at 3:30, the Homecoming Parade at 6 and the invitation-only Campaign Kickoff Celebration at 7:30 — to allow extra time to arrive on campus.

Traffic assistance will be available throughout the day to guide visitors into the Coliseum Deck.

Founders Drive will close at 2:30 p.m. on Friday to accommodate the Poole College of Management’s Porch Party at Nelson Hall. Wolfline buses will detour to Hillsborough Street and enter Founders Drive at the Brooks entrance.

The Homecoming Parade will follow a new route and direction this year, beginning at the Ferndell Lot, near the Pullen Road roundabout, and heading west on Hillsborough and then south on Dan Allen Drive. It will proceed on Sullivan Drive to Varsity Drive and disburse in the “C” parking area behind the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex.

Hillsborough Street will be closed beginning at approximately 5:45 p.m. through 7 p.m. for the parade.

Wolfline routes 1,2, 5, 6, 8 and 9 will suspend service beginning at 5:30 p.m. throughout the parade. Service is expected to resume on these routes as soon as the parade clears at approximately 7:30. Routes 3, 7, 10 and 11 are not affected and will continue normal service.
