Enhancing Our Emergency Preparedness

Good morning,

On Thursday, March 28, NC State Emergency Management and Mission Continuity (EMMC) conducted a successful campuswide emergency communications test of all WolfAlert systems. Within two minutes of initiating the test, all notifications were distributed to members of the campus community, including those sent via the OnCampus app.

The timeliness and effectiveness of emergency communications are essential pieces of the university’s response to an active threat to campus. The data collected during the test highlighted hardware and software updates needed across campus, which EMMC and various university partners will work to address in the coming months.

Most importantly, this test ensured university systems and responsible partners in the notification process understand how to collaborate and distribute notifications as quickly as possible in the event of a true emergency.

The successful execution of the WolfAlert test reinforces how important it is that every member of our community is prepared for emergency events to ensure a safe campus for all. Moving forward, in addition to internal monthly tests of the WolfAlert system, the university plans to conduct a campuswide drill once a semester to ensure all students and employees are familiar with WolfAlerts and know the necessary action to take in an emergency.

As a reminder, please sign up for WolfAlerts if you haven’t already. An informed community, along with our preparation and the university’s extensive safety network, helps protect our campus on a daily basis and during emergency situations.

Thank you.
