Organizational Transitions to Optimize Student Success

Dear NC State community —

Effective Aug. 1, several changes within units reporting up to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost will take place to align with the new UNC System policy, “Equality Within the University of North Carolina.” To that end, the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) will become the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity.

Organizational changes primarily involve NC State’s Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) and the new Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity, which will be led by Sheri Schwab as vice provost for institutional equity and equal opportunity.

These changes help ensure that NC State programs and units are optimized for student success. This aligns with the first goal in the university’s strategic plan, Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary — empower students for a lifetime of success and impact. Additionally, these changes will strengthen NC State’s ongoing commitment to equal opportunity and to combatting unlawful discrimination and harassment.

NC State’s four campus community centers — the African American Cultural Center, the LGBTQ Pride Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and the Women’s Center — will move from OIED to DASA. Carrie Zelna, the senior associate vice chancellor tasked with leading student success initiatives, will oversee these centers. The Disability Resource Office will move from DASA to the Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity and report to Sheri Schwab. For the most part, current staff within OIED will transition to the new Office of Institutional Equity and Equal Opportunity or DASA.

Further details will be communicated with the affected units and individuals as these transitions are implemented. Anyone with questions about these changes may contact Provost’s Office Chief of Staff and Director of Projects and Planning Kelly Wick at kmwick@ncsu.edu.

Sincerely,

Warwick Arden
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
