Rouphail Honored for Top Paper
A paper co-authored by Dr. Nagui M. Rouphail, director of the Institute for Transportation Research and Education, won a national award for best traffic engineering paper of the year.
Lead author Rick Dowling accepted the award from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Traffic Engineering Council last month in St. Louis.
The winning paper, “Level of Service Analysis for Complete Streets,” reports on a multimodal evaluation of an urban street. It was presented at a 2010 ITE conference.
The work will help planners and engineers assess urban streets not only from a driver’s perspective, but also for pedestrians, bicyclists and public transportation users, Rouphail said, adding that it can help professionals look at trade-offs in street designs.
ITE, an international educational and scientific association of transportation professionals, provides a forum for more than 17,000 members.
You can read more about the paper on the Transportation Research Board site.
