Sue Cross to Retire
Join the NC State community in celebrating the service of Sue Cross, who retires next month after 34 years on staff. Cross, described by her colleagues as “one of the friendliest faces NC State has ever known,” is a partner services specialist in the Centennial Campus Partnership Office.
Her retirement part is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the College of Textiles atrium on Centennial Campus.
Since 1973, Cross has worked in the Department of Forestry, the CALS Dean’s Office, Friends of the College Concert Series, Talley Student Center and Arts Program, and the Centennial Campus Partnership Office. In each position, she became the creative force behind programs that helped students, faculty, staff, partners and visitors.
Cross created many community-building programs on Centennial Campus, including the Executive Breakfast Club, Lunch and Learn and the Thursday Farmers Market. She also created the HealthWorks! Program, bringing to Centennial Campus employees a variety of health services, including mobile mammography, bloodmobiles, heart and vascular screenings, Weight Watchers @ Work and diet seminars. She was the blood drive coordinator of the year for Rex Blood Services in 2005.
Perhaps most importantly, she was the friendly face who set up a coffee date with every new administrative assistant hired by a company on Centennial Campus.
“I just wanted to make sure that these important people knew where everything was and how to take advantage of the campus resources available to them,” she says.
Cross and her husband Robbie are lifelong residents of Raleigh and have two grown children. Since Robbie will be retiring next month after 40 years with the Norfolk Southern Railroad, they expect to spend a lot more time relaxing and fishing at their property in Atlantic Beach.
