T.R. to Charge the McKimmon Center
More than a century ago, surrounded by a group of Confederate veterans, President Theodore Roosevelt stood at a podium across the street from NC State University to give a speech about strengthening the nation’s railroad legislation.
On Oct. 19, 1905, the president was visiting the N.C. State Fair, which at the time was located on the other side of Hillsboro Street (correct spelling at the time) from the college’s campus. He was the first sitting president to make an appearance within the shadow of what is now the state’s largest university.
Monday, Roosevelt returns to campus – in the form of actor Joe Wiegand, a renowned impersonator of the 26th president of the United States. Wiegand will relive Roosevelt’s adventures as a rancher, Rough Rider and father of six in the White House. The one-man show about the founder of America’s national parks is slated for 7-8 p.m. at the McKimmon Center. Admission is free for all in attendance.
The show is part of the College of Natural Resources 85th anniversary celebration. On Tuesday, the college will host a day-long symposium on the future of natural resources, with four discussions led by experts in various fields.
