Label Re-releases Waschka Concerto

A recording of NC State composer Rodney Waschka’s trumpet concerto, Winter Concerto, has just been re-released on the prestigious British label, Nimbus. The recording is part of a three-CD set titled “A European Odyssey, a remarkable musical adventure with the London Schubert Players” that has been named record of the month by Composition: Today.

The London Schubert Players chamber orchestra, Anda Anastasescu, artistic director, with Huw Morgan as trumpet soloist, premiered Waschka’s piece in London and recorded it in 2010 for the RMA label as part of a seven-CD project called “Invitation to Composers.” That project included 35 new compositions by composers from around the world and was funded by the European Union Cultural Fund, the London Schubert Players Trust, the Lionel Tertis Foundation and the Romanian Cultural Institutes of Paris and London. The re-release package on Nimbus presents 14 selected compositions from the original set.

Waschka is professor of arts studies in College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
