Davidian To Receive Holladay Medal
Statistics professor Dr. Marie Davidian will receive the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member by trustees and the university.
Davidian, a faculty member at NC State for more than 20 years, has made significant contributions to statistical theory and practice in the health sciences. She serves as executive editor for the journal Biometrics, the leading scholarly publication on statistical methodology relevant to biological sciences.
Davidian is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Statistical Association and Institute of Mathematical Statistics. She is an elected ordinary member of the International Statistical Institute. In addition to serving as William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor and Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor of Statistics, she is an adjunct professor in the biostatistics and bioinformatics at Duke University, where she works a day each week on cardiovascular disease research with scientists at Duke Clinical Research Institute.
In 2009, Davidian was selected for the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies G.W. Snedecor Award, which honors an individual who was instrumental in the development of statistical theory in biometry.
The Holladay Medal is named for Col. Alexander Quarles Holladay, the university’s first president. It recognizes the contributions of faculty members in teaching, research and service. Winners receive a medal and a framed certificate, and their names are inscribed on a plaque in the NC State Faculty Senate chambers.

The North Carolina State University Board of Trustees will award the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence to Dr. Marie Davidian, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor and Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor of Statistics, in recognition of her outstanding career at NC State. The Holladay Medal is the highest honor bestowed on a faculty member by the trustees and the university.
