Fight the ‘Impostor Syndrome’
Self-esteem expert Valerie Young will conduct a professional development workshop on campus 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 5, in the Hunt Library.
Space is limited, so you should register online as soon as possible for the event, “How to Feel as Bright and Capable as They ‘Think’ You Are: Why Smart People Suffer from the ‘Impostor Syndrome’ and How You Can Thrive in Spite of It.”
At the workshop, you’ll learn practical strategies for interrupting the “Impostor Syndrome.” By applying these simple but powerful techniques, you can break free of nagging self-doubt and begin to see yourself as the bright, competent person you really are. The workshop will be especially useful for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who aspire to leadership, management and supervisory roles. If you’re already in a leadership position, you’ll learn how to recognize the characteristics of the “Impostor Syndrome” in others so you can better mentor and advise your employees and/or students.
Young has been featured in national media, including the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Entrepreneur. She has facilitated sessions for major companies, ranging from McDonald’s and Boeing to Chrysler and Intel.
