With Large First-Year Class, NC State Climbs to 36,000 Students
NC State’s total enrollment pushed past 36,000 as a class of more than 4,800 first-year students and more than 1,300 transfer students joined the Wolfpack. Classes began on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
A freshman class of 4,822, combined with a transfer class of 1,378, will become part of the approximately 36,430 students enrolled for classes. NC State continues to educate more North Carolina resident students than any other university.
Nearly a third of the first-year class are from rural North Carolina counties.
NC State received 30,898 undergraduate admissions applications for this year, including 18,294 applications from in-state students and 6,792 from N.C. rural counties.
NC State’s first-year class includes 193 valedictorians and salutatorians, averaged 1337 on the SAT and 29 on the ACT, and had a weighted high school grade point average of 4.29.
About 50 percent of the freshmen were in the top 10 percent of their high school class. The class includes students from 97 North Carolina counties, 40 states and 20 countries.
