Severin Named ACE Fellow
English professor Laura Severin has been selected as one of 50 fellows at the American Council on Education for the 2011-12 academic year.
The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutional capacity and build leadership in American higher education. Most previous fellows have advanced into administrative positions, according to Sharon McDade, director of the program. Of more than 1,700 participants since the program began, more than 300 have become chief executive officers and more than 1,100 have become provosts, vice presidents or deans.
Severin, also a member of the Women’s and Gender Studies faculty, serves as a co-principal investigator for a a National Science Foundation Advance project to recruit and retain women and faculty of color at NC State.
As a fellow, Severin will attend retreats on higher education issues, read extensively in the field and take on an assignment at another university. She will spend part of the next year at Duke University, focusing on interdisciplinary teaching and research.
