When a team of undergraduates announced the results of their senior research project, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. That’s because the biomedical engineering students developed a moisture-saving contact lens for paralyzed patients who can't blink.

Promising Future

Political science major Ericka Aiken will graduate with no debt, armed with a slew of offers from some of the nation's top law schools. She, along with 84 of her fellow graduates, is part of the inaugural class of NC State's Pack Promise program, which guarantees qualifying students 100 percent of financial aid requirements.

Biomedical Marvels

Even before she heads off to med school, NC State's Kat Sauer has a medical device invention to her credit. Then again, so does every other student who has taken the senior design course in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the last two years. Course director Andrew DiMeo’s efforts to make the course more entrepreneurial in that time have produced 17 invention disclosures and a new partnership with Wake Medical Center.
