Sea Grant Publications Win

The North Carolina Sea Grant publications team won awards of excellence for Coastwatch magazine and green materials entries.

A 2009 Coastwatch issue on bay scallops was recognized in the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition, based on graphic design, editorial content and overall quality.

Coastwatch team members include Katie Mosher, managing editor; Kathleen Angione, Benjamin Young Landis, Kelley Brackett and Zachary Moser-Katz, freelance writers and editors; and Sandra Harris, circulation manager.

The Sustainability Series, developed by Robin Wienke and used in training by local leaders, was one of three award of excellence winners in the new green materials category. Wienke, a former science communications fellow, developed the Sustainability Series as her master’s project, working with Gloria Putnam, water quality planning specialist. Wienke’s work also recently earned a Walter B. Jones Sr. Memorial Award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
