Wilson Wins Teaching Award

Dr. Elizabeth B. Wilson, associate professor of agricultural and extension education, received a 2010 Regional Teaching Award at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities annual meeting in Dallas.

Wilson was among six faculty members honored for their ability as classroom teachers, innovative methods, scholarship and service to students and the profession. The award includes a $2,000 stipend.

Wilson, a former high school instructor, began teaching at NC State in 2000. Her undergraduate courses include methods of teaching, teaching diverse learners and a team-taught agricultural biotechnology class. She also teaches graduate courses in curriculum development and issues in agricultural education.

From 2000 to 2006 Wilson received funding to train high school teachers on teaching agricultural biotechnology. From 2007 to 2010 she received a U.S. Department of Agriculture Higher Education Challenge develop an online agricultural biotechnology course in collaboration with animal science and plant biology faculty.

Wilson has received many teaching honors, including NC State’s Outstanding Teaching Award and induction into the university’s Academy of Outstanding Teachers. She earned two B.S. degrees, an M.S. and an Ed.D. from NC State.
