First Look at Terry Center

Be one of the first to see NC State’s new veterinary medical complex, one of the largest, most technologically advanced facilities in the country. Faculty and staff are invited for a “sneak peek” at the Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Veterinary Medical Center on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.

The 110,000-square-foot Terry Center addition more than doubles the current size of NC State’s small animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital, giving it twice the number of surgery suites and exam rooms, along with dedicated teaching space, a new pharmacy and larger patient visitation areas.

Here’s some of the state-of-the art medical equipment inside:

• A linear accelerator for more precise cancer treatment
• A 64-slice CT scan machine for high-resolution images of the heart, brain or lungs in seconds
• A biplane fluoroscopy unit for better visualization of congenital heart defects
• Ultrasound stations for noninvasive imaging
• Copper-shielded rooms for neurological and ophthalmological diagnostics
• The Canine Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, the only such treatment facility at academic clinical facilities in the U.S.

The four-year, $72 million project was made possible, in part, by a $20 million donation from the R.B. Terry Jr. Charitable Foundation—one of the largest private gifts ever given to NC State.

Dedication Week Activities

• Thursday, May 5—The Terry Center will be open to the NC State community for a “sneak peek” from 1 to 4 p.m.
• Friday, May 6—Formal dedication ceremony begins at 2 p.m.
• Saturday, May 7—Continuing education event for veterinarians and veterinary technicians concludes with a tour of the Terry Center.
• Sunday, May 8—The Terry Center is open for public tours from 1 to 4 p.m.
