Gallippi Awarded NIH Funding
Dr. Caterina M. Gallippi, biomedical engineering professor, received a five-year National Institutes of Health grant for muscular dystrophy research.
Gallippi will receive up to $300,000 per year to study changes in muscle composition in Duchenne muscular dystrophy. She will use double pulse acoustic radiation ultrasound to follow muscle degeneration from early to late stages of the disease.
Gallippi will collaborate with Drs. Joe Kornegay, Hongtu Zhu and James Howard, professors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who are part of the joint NC State-UNC biomedical engineering department.
