Entomologist Honored as Top Mentor
Entomology professor John Meyer has won a mentor of the year award for his work in preparing teams for the Envirothon, an academic competition for high school students.
Meyer has worked with students for more than five years, conducting study sessions to help them understand aquatic entomology and the life forms that inhabit local freshwater creeks, streams, lakes and rivers.
The Wake County Soil and Water Conservation District honored Meyer at its annual conservation awards celebration, citing Wake County teams’ success at the state, regional and national levels. The competition tests students’ knowledge of soil and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.
