Soccer Practice Facility Takes Shape

Construction is under way on a new practice facility for the men’s and women’s soccer teams.

The Wolfpack Training Complex across the street from Dail Soccer Stadium will feature grass and turf fields with lighting, a sound system and 50-foot netting behind each goal.

The hybrid Bermuda grass field will be a replica of the Pack’s game day field. The synthetic field will be the first on campus. Extra turf space will have penalty box dimensions that can be used for set pieces and shooting on goal.

Teams will also have a 25,000-square-foot warm up/training area near the entrance.

The practice facility is part of a $2.2 million in soccer upgrades that began last year with the addition of a new entrance, brick exteriors, a locker room building, a press box and improved seating for fans at Dail Soccer Field.  In addition, both squads have had their locker rooms renovated in the Weisiger-Brown building.

“Every coach and player wants to be in a program where soccer matters,” said men’s head coach Kelly Findley. “The investment and commitment here at NC State has made this program a place where soccer not only matters but is a priority.”

Women’s head coach Steve Springthorpe said all the soccer facilities are located within walking distance. “Our players will have the ability to train and compete on the best soccer specific surfaces in the country.”
