NC State to Host Chancellors’ Cup Tourney

NC State will have the home field advantage next Friday when Chancellor Randy Woodson leads a team competing in the inaugural Chancellors’ Cup Golf Tournament at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, sponsored by the UNC Staff Assembly. The tournament, organized to raise money for a staff scholarship fund, will include teams from each of the system’s 17 campuses, the Board of Governors and the President’s Office.

In addition to bragging rights, the winning team will take home the gold Chancellors’ Cup trophy, a traveling cup that will be displayed at the winning campus each year, and the Champions Trophy, which will stay at the university that wins the tournament.

Entry fees will be donated to the Janet B. Royster Memorial Staff Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for staff development activities throughout the UNC system. Royster was a UNC-TV employee and parliamentarian of the UNC Staff Assembly prior to her death last year.

PGA professionals from the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, who are graduates of NC State’s PGA Golf Management program, will conduct a skills clinic for participants in the morning. Members of the Staff Assembly from across the state and UNC-TV employees will volunteer their time to conduct the tournament. Members of the Royster family, and their friends, will compete in the tournament and assist in running the event.
