Handball Championships on Campus

A handful of athletes will win national championships on NC State’s campus this month.

It may not be in the traditional varsity sports sponsored by the athletics department or even the world-famous NC State Bass Fishing Club, but from Feb. 19-23 the U.S. Handball Association’s 62nd annual national collegiate championships will be held at NC State’s Carmichael Gym.

Some 250 players from 42 colleges across the country and Ireland will compete for national titles in multiple divisions throughout the week on Carmichael’s 18 handball/racquetball courts. Seven of the competitors will be members of the university club team, which is one of more than 50 club sports sponsored by University Recreation. They will compete for individual titles and look to contribute points toward a team championship.

Admission is free for all matches and spectators are welcome.

Media interested in covering the event can contact Matt Krueger. Tournament results and updates will be available online via the U.S. Handball Association’s official site.
