NC State’s MBA program continues to build its reputation for quality. Poets & Quants, a popular online community for current and prospective MBA students, places the Jenkins online program among the top 20 nationwide. That’s an elite group that includes some of the most selective schools in the country, including privates Carnegie Mellon, George Washington and Pepperdine, as well as public powerhouses UNC-Chapel Hill and the University of Maryland, College Park.

“We believe the best online MBA programs are simply at the best business schools,” editor John A. Byrne said in The Definitive Guide to Online MBAs. “The ultimate test for any degree is the reputation of the school that grants it.”

Most schools on the list offer online programs that are nearly identical to their highly ranked campus programs, he noted. And many, including the 17th ranked Jenkins program, are remarkably affordable.

“Our list also shows that you don’t have to go heavily into hock to get an MBA,” Byrne said.

The Jenkins online MBA costs $37,167 for instate students and $52,650 for out-of-state students.

Rankings Rocket

This is the second top-20 ranking for NC State’s MBA program this year. In January the professional MBA — a part-time, face-to-face program — made the top 20 on Bloomberg BusinessWeek’s list of the best national programs.

In fact, all the MBA programs offered through the Jenkins Graduate School of Management have been on a fast upward trajectory in recent years. U.S. News & World Report ranked the online program No. 36 on its January 2014 list of the best graduate online business programs, an increase of six spots from the previous year, and judged the full-time MBA 65th in the nation, up 23 spots. The part-time program jumped a dozen spots this year to rank 61st in the nation on the U.S. News list.

Although NC State has been teaching economics, business and management for a century, the Poole College of Management has existed for just over 20 years. The MBA program was launched in 2002.
