Pack 27th in Final Directors Cup

NC State had its highest finish in the 22-year history of the Learfield Sports Directors Cup, finishing 27th in the final standings that were released on Thursday.

A total of 14 teams registered points, and the Pack was pushed up in the standings with strong finishes from men’s swimming and diving (eighth place in the NCAA Championships), men’s basketball (an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance) and softball (an NCAA Super Regional appearance).

Nine teams finished their seasons ranked in the Top 25 of their respective sport’s final ranking.

2015 Gwiazdowski championshipCombined with the recent announcement that Wolfpack athletics earned its best-ever Federal Graduation Rate of 71 percent and its second best NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 81 percent, it capped the best year ever under fifth-year athletics director Debbie Yow.

“The combined academic and athletic success of our programs in 2014-15 is something the NC State community appreciates,” Yow said. “We applaud the efforts of our student-athletes, coaches and staffs on a truly special year and the progress we’re making in all of our key goal areas.”

Over the last five years, the Wolfpack has improved from 89 th in 2009-10 to 27 th this academic year.
