NC State University Prepares for Beginning of 2015 Fall Semester

For Immediate Release

North Carolina State University welcomes returning and new students and their families today and this weekend as it prepares to begin its fall semester – and a new academic year – on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

An expected freshman class of about 4,270 – the largest freshman class in North Carolina – will become part of the more than 33,000 students enrolled for classes. NC State’s expected freshman class includes 235 valedictorians and salutatorians, and averaged 1251 on the math and critical reading portions of the SAT with a weighted high school grade point average of 4.44. About 50.9 percent of the expected freshmen were in the top 10 percent of their high school class.

Sixty-two had a perfect math score on the SAT, and 31 had a perfect score on the critical reading portion of the test. About 74 percent of expected freshmen submitted advanced placement scores to NC State.

Approximately 1,347 of the expected freshmen plan to enroll in the College of Engineering, making it the most popular program among first-year students.

The general public should avoid main campus during move-in days in light of the heavy congestion expected. Cates Avenue will be designated as a one-way street for westbound traffic between Morrill Drive and Dan Allen Drive.
