Hoon Named Interim Vice Chancellor and General Counsel

Chancellor Randy Woodson has appointed Robert Hoon to serve as interim vice chancellor and general counsel, effective Sept 1. He currently serves as the university’s deputy general counsel.

Hoon has 26 years of higher education service. Prior to joining NC State in 2015, he served as general counsel at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, held numerous business and legal capacities at Washington State University, served as assistant to the minority leader in the Washington State House and was a medical malpractice defense and construction litigator.

The chancellor has convened a nominating committee to guide a national search to replace General Counsel Eileen Goldgeier, who is leaving NC State for Brown University. Kevin Howell, vice chancellor for external affairs, partnerships and economic development, is chairing the committee.

Committee members include Carolyn Bird, chair of the faculty; Tom Cabaniss, Board of Trustees liaison; College of Education Dean Mary Ann Danowitz; Wade Fulghum, interim executive director for technology commercialization and new ventures; Sheri Schwab, interim vice provost for institutional equity and diversity; Janice Sitzes, chair-elect of the staff senate; Marie Williams, associate vice chancellor for human resources; and Lisa Zapata, senior associate vice chancellor for academic and student affairs.
