NC State Announces Licensed Wine Highlighting Lake Raleigh Woods

NC State releases its fourth wine in the Hallowed Places Collection. This offering highlights Lake Raleigh Woods.

NC State announced today the fourth officially licensed wine as part of the Hallowed Places Collection, which launched in 2021. This offering features Lake Raleigh Woods on the label, one of the university’s 10 Hallowed Places. As with each previous wine in the collection, the label was designed by a student in the NC State College of Design.

The limited-edition red blend was produced by Shelton Vineyards in Dobson, North Carolina, and is available for purchase directly from the vineyard’s website and store beginning Sept. 26, 2024. There are approximately 1,200 bottles available for purchase with a portion of all sales supporting NC State scholarships. 

“We are excited to feature another one of NC State’s talented College of Design students and Hallowed Places with the fourth wine in this collection,” said Chris Boyer, assistant vice chancellor for strategic brand management. “One of the central tenets of our partnership with Shelton Vineyards is to highlight the beauty of our campus as well as the talent that lies in our state’s viticulture industry. The Lake Raleigh Woods red certainly helps accomplish that goal.”

The first three wines of the university’s licensed wine collection were also produced by Shelton Vineyards and featured Hallowed Places: the Brickyard, the Court of North Carolina and Reynolds Coliseum. In 2022, the university also partnered with Shelton Vineyards to produce Wolfpack Red and Wolfpack White

Lake Raleigh Woods, an oasis of North Carolina’s natural beauty, sits on 96 acres of NC State’s Centennial Campus. This educational and recreational setting provides trails, boating and fishing for the NC State community and beyond, and research opportunities for students, faculty and staff. 

An essential purpose of the Hallowed Places Collection is to provide real-world experiences for students, in particular those in the College of Design. 

“Graphic design is more than just art,” said Anatastacy Golovidov, whose design was chosen for this wine. “It’s also research-based, and we also have the aspect of user experience. Knowing that I could get this real-world experience and complete these projects right now makes me feel more comfortable and assured in what I want to do later.”

Sales of all officially licensed NC State products and merchandise support student scholarships in the areas of need, merit, study abroad and athletics. Previously released NC State licensed wines have already contributed thousands of dollars in student assistance.
