Continuing Our Commitment

Vice Chancellor and Dean Doneka R. Scott shares an update on the university's ongoing commitment to student mental health and well-being, and the JED Campus initiative.

Dear NC State community,

I’m sharing important updates on the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting student mental health and well-being. Since February 2023, implementation teams, charged by the Student Mental Health Steering Committee, have worked to better understand and address the evolving needs of our campus. Much of this vital work will continue through a transition to the JED Campus initiative, which is entering the second year of its four-year journey.

The JED Campus initiative is a comprehensive, collaborative process aimed at enhancing student mental health and suicide prevention efforts on college campuses. Through expert support, evidence-based best practices and data-driven guidance, JED Campus helps colleges and universities strengthen their existing programs and make adjustments to support students more effectively.

Thanks to the dedication of the members of our Student Mental Health Task Force, the Student Mental Health Steering Committee, our implementation teams and the campus community, we have already completed many of the recommendations designed to foster a safer, more supportive environment for all students. However, our work is far from over, and our JED Campus Advisory Group is committed to building on these efforts and finding new ways to support our students in the coming years.

For historical information on the Student Mental Health Task Force and the progress of our mental health initiatives, visit the Wolfpack Wellness website.

Together, we will continue to prioritize the mental health and well-being of our students.

In wellness,
