NC State University and Schneider Electric have announced a new partnership aimed at advancing the energy technology that will power more resilient, decarbonized and intelligent infrastructure.

The five-year research agreement, celebrated at a March 26 ceremony on NC State’s campus, brings together university researchers, students and industry leaders to develop technology solutions for the new energy landscape, where growing demand, electrification and the shift to renewables are reshaping how the world produces and consumes power.

Schneider Electric will collaborate with NC State on research that will help address the defining challenges of the new energy landscape, including grid resilience and reliability, building and industrial efficiency, energy storage and sustainable infrastructure. Joint initiatives will span artificial intelligence, next-generation power systems and grid modernization. As global demand accelerates, driven by the growth of digital technologies, industrial electrification and expanding renewables, the partnership will focus on enabling smarter, more efficient operations across buildings, data centers, factories and critical infrastructure.

“At Schneider Electric, we are leading the convergence of electrification, automation and digital intelligence into what we call energy technology,” said Chief Innovation Officer Daniel Gheno. “NC State is a leading research university known for tackling complex challenges. Together, we will develop innovative solutions that make a more resilient, efficient and sustainable energy future possible.”

The agreement builds on a growing partnership established in 2014. Schneider Electric has been an active member of NC State’s FREEDM Systems Center for more than a decade, contributing to industry-informed research and student training. Previous joint projects have focused on novel breakers, microgrids and advanced power systems.
